Settle the West
Date: May 18, 2012
Age: 12-15 years old
Time: 930-1pm, ½ hr lunch
(parents optional, but encouraged)
Students who like a challenge will immerse themselves in history, exploring primary and historical resources, archival photographs and artifacts through self-directed learning. Students bring their research to life in a facilitator led interview. Following lunch, students take over and travel through the museum, determining what life was like for the Mounted Police and investigating the various perspectives of the immigrants that settled in Calgary after the NWMP arrival. The primary sources, archival photographs and critical thinking questions in the take-home booklet develop media and visual literacy skills needed to inquire about historical perspective.
